Woof woof woof!
Hi! My name is Gimli and I’m a special kind of dog called a Cardigan Welsh Corgi. That’s a long name for a short dog! Corgis like me are “dwarf dogs,” which means our legs are shorter than most dogs. You might wonder why Corgis are short… well, some Corgis help farmers move cows from one place to another. Since our legs are so short, we can run under the cows without getting in the way! I don’t live on a farm so I can’t help with cows like some Corgis, but I do have special work that I like to do.
I’m the only animal in my family, and when the human kids go to school, I get bored and lonely. My mom says I’m “social,” but all I know is that I always want to be around people, especially kids.
For a couple of years now, I have been able to ride in the car (I love riding in the car!) to visit some older people who sometimes get lonely because they aren’t allowed to have pets where they live. My mom calls it “therapy,” but I just call it fun! I go with my human sister and human grandmother, and I love it, but we can only visit a couple days a month… and that’s not enough for me.
So now, I get to go to school, too, just like my brother and sister! This is so exciting, because I get to spend time with kids, listen to stories and I’m even learning to R.E.A.D.!
You might like to know that I got my name from a book called The Lord of the Rings. I hope I’ll be able to read that book someday. The character I’m named after is an imaginary person called a dwarf who has bushy red hair. Can you guess why my family decided this would be a good name for me?
I love getting notes and letters, so if you want to write to me, you can email me at Gimli@READingPaws.org and I’ll read it and write you back!
